Types of Dehumidiers
Chemical Absorbent Dehumidifier
These dehumidifiers consist of hydrophilic materials, including silica gel. An example of a chemical absorbent dehumidifier would be those little sealed packets that often come inside the box of a new pair of shoes.
Heat Pump Dehumidifier
This type of dehumidifier uses a heat pump, fan and heat exchange coils to remove moisture from the air. The fan pushes air past the heat exchange coils, which are often very cold. The moisture then condenses and collects, removing the moisture out of the air before it is recirculated back into the home.
Dehumidifying Ventilator
This type of dehumidifier uses an exhaust fan to remove air outside. It is fitted with a sensor and exhaust fan, and it is ideal for attics, basements, and crawlspaces.
